Small Business Spotlight: Neighborhood Comics

1201 Bull Street

Since 1993, Jeff Notrica of Inman Park Properties set out to revitalize the southeastern region and bring new life to small businesses in the area. One of Notrica’s stand-out projects has been the restoration and redevelopment of the 1201 Bull Street property in downtown Savannah, Georgia. Since the project began, the two-story storefront has begun to blossom. Its most recent addition is Neighborhood Comics, a boutique comic book shop that hosts book signings and club meetings in addition to a huge assortment of comics and graphic novels.

Neighborhood Comics, owned by Lee Heidel, opened this past spring and joins White Whale Craft Ales at the Bull Street property. It is part of what Notrica calls “a vibrant mix of local tenants.” With rent prices continuing to grow downtown, giving small businesses a chance to flourish has become challenging.

1201 Bull Street joins nearby 6 Henry Street as part of Notrica’s vision to “bring local businesses back into the neighborhood.” In September, Notrica and Inman Park Properties won the bid for the former fire station and are working to restore the building and give it new life as a restaurant.

Neighborhood Comics Sign

Neighborhood comics is now open, bringing personality and life to an already thriving downtown Savannah community. It is not your average comic store. In addition to its wide array of products and events, the shop is offering a subscription service to ensure customers will never miss an issue of their favorite comic. From toys, games, comics and more, Neighborhood Comics plans to keep growing and serving its community.

As Heidel said in his interview with Savannah Now: “We want to be the store the neighborhood wants us to be.”
