Callan Castle is the former grand mansion of Coca-Cola Company founder and former Atlanta Mayor Asa Griggs Candler.
Located in Atlanta’s historic Inman Park neighborhood, the home boasts a rich history and remains a storied and stunning landmark.
Callan Castle rose from the ashes of war, perched on the site of the defining Battle of Atlanta. When it was built, between 1902-1904, it was the crowning gem of the newly minted Inman Park neighborhood — Atlanta’s first planned community and one of the nation’s first garden suburbs.
The home survived the neighborhood’s long, steady decline, from post-World War II to the 1960s when a group of young urban pioneers fought to preserve and revive Inman Park. It has seen several renovations. And, today, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Designed by George Murphy, Callan Castle boasts a mélange of architectural styles. The two-story pedimented portico alludes to Greek Revival mansions. The winding porch, the asymmetrical position of the entrance doorway, and the mix of materials are Victoria in character. And the delicate decor of garlands on the entablature along with the Palladian motif above it is characteristic of the Colonial Revival style.
Current owner, Jeff Notrica purchased the home in 2018. The home is a frequent filming location for production companies looking for opulent Southern homes, including HBO, Netflix, and more.
